Nothing was out of the ordinary- the sun sat high in the sky, rays shining down warming the cats with the blistering reminder that green-leaf was here; the clouds sat near to still, the breeze barely blowing. The cats of the clans went about their everyday lives- warriors patrolling, apprentices training, kits playing, elders basking, and medicine cats healing. It all had a sense of routine comfort to it, that was boring to some, while thrilling to others. It all depended on how the day was experienced, and with so many different cats, there were countless options as to how the hours unfolded- some for better, others for worse.
Her luck just wasn't turned in favor.
Along the shore the lithe warrior hopped from rock to rock, barely giving herself enough time to stick the landing before bounding towards the next it. It was a path she'd traveled many times before on a rather regular basis. It was the place where everything had started- the place where Oakpool had begun to feel at home.
She was as conserved as a pearl- closed up in an unpenetrable defense- yet she still housed the same wondrous beauty. Break through the shell and she was as precious as a flower- delicate and docile. And somehow he had managed to do it. He'd broken down her guard and snuck his way right into her heart. His name was Moonshadow. but he had since gone missing.
At first the young Oakpool kept herself optimistic, walking their favorite routes in hope that he'd eventually show up, taking on as many patrols as she could in hope that she'd be the lead or member of the group that found him. Though like anyone else, she could only take failure for so long before she called it quits. Slowly she found herself sinking back into the same ways that she had lived after her sister died before she had reached Sunsetclan- mute, and reserved. Whenever the full moon came about she feigned sickness so she wouldn't have to go to the gatherings, but otherwise would sit by herself in the back. When the time for patrols came around she'd try to act like she was busy, but when she was picked she stayed towards the rear, not talking much and going off on her own to hunt when they'd split up.
On days like today though where she had nothing better to do, she commonly found herself walking their old path.
Her eyes drifted out towards the ocean, taking in it's vastness. Upon the surface she could see a ruddy colored cat, thin with near lifeless eyes- she could see herself. The image never stayed for long before it became distorted by the constantly moving blue depths. It was like herself- broken and distorted, remaining in a perfected state only temporarily before being wrecked once again.
Situating herself atop a flat rock, she simply stared out, looking at where the water met the horizon and how it continued traveling onward. Maybe he was somewhere out there, but if he wasn't... what was? Maybe one day she would find out. She could certainly dream.
