Darkpaw padded quietly into the clearing and sat down, curling her long tail over her paws. She shook her head, ears flattening in embarrassment and she thought about the day before. She had been given her first hunting task, and she had headed straight to the Fallen Oak because when the warriors hunted there, they always brought back prey. She had been hunched down in a messy hunters crouch, eyes fixed on a mouse, when a bird screeched an alarm call. Darkpaw had been so terrified that she ran back to the camp as quickly as she could, before tripping over a root before falling clumsily into the clearing. The amused looks from her clanmates had scorched Darkpaws pelt with embarrassment. So she had gone to bed early, determined to wake up before dawn. The sunrises made her feel better. When she was a kit, Darkpaws mother had fallen into a deep hole of depression and heartbreak when Darkpaws father had taken another mate- a mate from his own clan. Darkpaw had nuzzled against her mother at night, only to be shoved away with a paw. So she had found comfort in the paintings nature had to offer. Her yellow eyes fixed on the beautiful colours that were beginning to creep over the tops of the trees, wonder dancing in their depths. The pastel hues made her feel like everything was okay. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
Everything was going to be okay.

[Whiteleaf]

A sleek black figure was peacefully sleeping in one of the corners of the apprentice den, dreaming of the exciting day he would finally get to become a warrior. but before the dream could come to a satisfying end, Swiftpaw heard someone start to stir. He opened his pale gray eyes groggily, but the drowsiness left the young tom as soon as he that it was Darkpaw. After the she-cat left to go to the Midnightclan camp clearing, he hopped out of his nice warm nest made of moss and down before scrambling for the entrance of the den, careful not to wake up anyone else. Swiftpaw quickly poked his head out of the apprentice den before racing out into the clearing to see the many colors of the early morning sky. Dawn was his favorite time of day for that very reason. He skidded to a halt when he spotted Darkpaw sitting down nearby with her tail wrapped around her paws, the young tom feeling a bit mischievous for once. The normally skittish apprentice immediately crouched down into the hunter's crouch, his tail waving in the air as he crept towards his denmate. As he drew closer to her, Swiftpaw really hoped that she was in a good mood.

Darkpaws tail tip twitched, one ear swivelling sideways as she continued to stare above her. A solitary dark cloud pushed it way into the array of colours, sending a shiver down Darkpaws spine when she saw it. Bad new, bad news! She fretted, her ears now flattening. She always tended to have a bad day when her sunrise was tarnished in anyway. She sighed, a damp misery spreading through her body from the tips of her ears to her paws. She knew she would make a fool of herself again today, just like she did the day before, and the day before that. She couldn't help messing up, it just happened naturally to her. She shuffled her paws uncomfortably. She wished she could have somebody she could confide in, she was quite an awkward cat so she didn't really know how to make friends.Perhaps I could go to the next gathering and make friends there! She dismissed the thought immediately, unease make her dark grey fur bristle at the thought of possibly meeting her half-siblings, or worse still, meeting her father. Sitting up a little bit taller and puffing out her chest, Darkpaw knew that she had to make herself a great warrior of MidnightClan! Today she would try harder than she ever had! She would pay attention at all times! She slid her claws out and sank them into the ground and lashed her tail. Today she would be as brave as a lion!

[Whiteleaf]

The young apprentice stalked closer to his target, watching her closely to try to decipher what type of mood she was in. Swiftpaw paused for a moment when he noticed a shadow pass over him, quickly glancing up at the sky. He watched as a lone stormy cloud began to obscure the brightening colors of the sky, silently pleased that that would help him not be detected by the she-cat because of the pure black color of his dense fur. The Midnightclan tom focused his attention back on Darkpaw, moving a little bit closer to her, but dropped his tail in slight dismay when he saw that she looked a bit spooked by the weather. Just as he was about to forget the whole idea, he noticed that her posture had changed for the better. Hoping that the other apprentice was feeling a bit better, Swiftpaw quickly went into his final position with claws sheathed, adrenaline running through him. Just as he leaped, he noticed the unmistakable white glint of her claws, but it was already too late. "Watch out!" Swiftpaw yowled, trying to change course and miss the dark gray she-cat.
