Nutflower's slim body still quivered from the intense labor of an hour ago. Her eyes were wide open, darting around aimlessly for the father of the kits. The chocolate had been in labor for well over a few hours. Nutflower's eyes showed powerful emotions of worry and pain. She was tired but more than ever did she seem determined to take care of her kits. A new mother, she allowed her instincts to guide her. They told the queen to wait. Be patient. It calmed her and prevented her from having a panic attack. Unfortunalty it told nothing of what a mother should do with her kits. Except wait. Nutflower did not like the wait, however. So she thought. She pondered about mysteries which she had been wanting to know the answer since a small kit. It made most of the time fly away. Now however, Nutflower's mothering instincts were starting to kick in. Parshly. She struggled to lift her head. Nutflower attempted to lick her kits but her strength had been zapped from her body. Barely did the chocolate brown queen manage to reach her tongue to just barly touch her kits. It didn't occur to her to call for her mate.

Badgerclaw had almost been knocked off his paws when the breathless Blizzardlight had come barreling through the undergrowth, delivering the news.  Nutflower had had her kits!  The large tom had forgotten all about the squirrel he had been tracking and immediately ran back to camp.  He hardly remembered to utter a thank you to the kind little she-cat that had run all the way out of camp to tell him.  I'm a father, I'm a father! Over and over the thought rattled around in his mind.  Are they healthy?  I can't believe I missed it! The warrior bit back his frustration, no he only had room to be happy.  His legs carried him faster than he thought possible, and in no time he was rushing through the clearing, nearly careening right past the nursery.  

The tom forced himself to slow down and not burst in to the nursery like a deranged badger.  He took in one large breath and stepped in side, his large orange eyes blinking to adjust to the dim lighting in the nursery.  As soon as he spotted his mate, he hurried over.  No more than a second after he found Nutflower, he looked at the little bundles off life that were curled up near her.  Not a word was able to escape the happy toms mouth, instead he nuzzled up next to his chocolate colored mate and licked her head fiercely with both love and pride.  She muse be exhausted.. He thought.  

When he had come in Nutflower had been trying to clean off the kits and get them dry.  Badgerclaw decided he ought to help.  He looked at the six squirming kits more closely, "They're beautiful..." He whispered gently to Nutflower before snagging a little brown tom, the same color as his mate, to get him dry.  The little kit mewled unhappily and wiggled a little.  A deep chuckling rumbled out of him before he looked to Nutflower again, "What should we name them?"

Nutflower lifted her head momentarily, trying to find the source of the noise. Apparently, no cat ever told even newborn kits were loud. SHe was sure she`d become deaf very soon! Nutflower watched her mate help out. In response, Nutflower mewed a weak thankyou. Her body shuddered as she attempted to keep herself awake once more. Nutflower payed close attention to all of her kits, hoping that they were all healthy. In Nutflower`s condition, she was so tired that things were starting to swirl before her very eyes. Nutflower blinked a few times, hoping it would clear her vision. "Perhaps I should be resting. Let Badgerclaw take care of the kits. I need my rest." A small voice said within Nutflower. Nutflower shook this thought away. She was a bit caught off guard when he rmate asked her about their newborn kit`s names. "I-I`m not sure..." SHe answered.

It took a while for Nutflower to speak, her tired voice made it clear that he had the responsibility of naming them.  Badgerclaw licked her ear comfortingly, "Thats alright, love.  I'll do it.  You can just rest." His voice was as sweet as honey as he coaxed her head back down.  He bit back his concern, hoping that this fatigued state of hers was just from labor and not because she was slipping away from him.  No, that was not what was happening she was tired.  He jammed those morbid thoughts in to the deep parts of his mind and soon found himself smiling again.  The little brown kit he had been cleaning had wiggled out of his paws and nestled up against Nutflowers belly, already hungry.  

The heavy set tom gently reached out for one of the kits, pulling over a tom that was on the larger side and had the same color pattern as he did.  Badgerclaw purred, he could even see the small claws poking out of the kits paws.  "You're name with be Badgerkit, named after your father, me." He almost felt a little silly naming a kit after himself.  but, the large kit was nearly a spitting image of himself.  Who knew? Maybe Badgerkit even had orange eyes.  He nudged the kit back to Nutflower, glancing at her to see if she was still awake.  He hoped she would stay up to hear all of their names.  

Next, he looked to one of the she-kits that had long choclate brown and white fur.  Badgerclaw decided against picking her up, seeing that they all seemed very hungry.   She also looked unhealthy, and that worried him. but, he reached out and pressed his paw gently to her small frame.  "You will be Otterkit, named for your sleek fur."  Another she-kit was next her that had a smiliar black and white pattern to Badgerkit and himself.  Something about her fur reminded him of feathers.  "You will be called Ravenkit.  Because you challenge the beauty of the graceful ravens."   

He paused before naming the last two, he felt like Nutflower should have a say in their names.  The tom gently picked up the two remaining toms and set them near her face so she could name them.  "Name these two, love.  Let them hear their mothers voice."

Nutflower listened to her mate wearily. SHe enjoyed hearing the sound of Badgeclaw`s voice; it somehow soothed her. She almost laughed a rather tired one when she heard the reason of naming her firstborn kit. A smile crossed Nutflower`s face despite the tire which it seemed to cause. Nutflower nodded slightly, approving of the names which her mate had picked out for their kits. "Badgerkit, Otterkit, and Ravenkit. What pleasant names," Nutfower murmured softly. She wondered what the last two kit`s name would be. Nutflower had not yet realized her mate was talking to her. She did not notice him asking her to name the last two. She had a faraway look on her face. The queen`s thoughts once more, had blew Nutflower far from the real world and into the land of thoughts and dreams.

Badgerclaw let a deep rumbling purr escape him as she approved of the names he was given.  but, right after she had spoken she seemed to drift back off to sleep.  Once again, the tom bit back his distress and looked to the last two kits.  One was the same chocolate brown as its mother and the other was brown with white patterns like he had.  His orange eyes slid to Nutflower again before he moved to name them.  He rested a paw against the long furred tom, "You will be Marshkit."  He switched to the little she-kit, "And you will be Brownkit."  He looked at all of them with joy, even though some of them looked unhealthy.  They were alive and that is what mattered.  

Finally, he lay down next to the tired form of his mate, resting his head on her shoulder, and watched the small kits.  He knew, eventually he would be kicked out of the nursery.  but for now he just wanted to enjoy the moment.

Brownkit squirmed, trying to sniff out the milk of his tired mother. He took after his father in almost every way. The newborn mewed piteously for something that would fill the small brown yummy of his. Brownkit happily waddled over to a furry thing and attempted to climb over it. Falling with a small thump, Brownkit wriggled his hind legs so that they rested comfortably on the ground. After which, he headed over to his mother, finally rewarded of his struggles by some yummy tasting milk.

The average sized tom complained about the limited space as he was being crowded and squished in between his siblings. Brownkit tried to climb upon his mother's back but failed terribly. Unhappy and slightly miserable, Brownkit decided it would be much more fun climbing his siblings. And so he did. Barely born and Brownkit was already showing himself to be a hassle. Poor Nutflower.
