The Cinder within the Running Heart

A large brown tabby padded into the camp's clearing. He had just returned from hunting, his jaws empty. The tom glanced around the camp. His copper eyes fell upon the huddled, coughing forms of his clan mates. He cast his eyes down and swallowed, frustrated at his failure to bring back even one morsel. He continued walking, his once powerful muscular form was receding. The toll of this leafbare and the limited number of able cats had stressed his body, now showing ribs.

The tom searched for his mate, Brookfall. Cinderstone had a strong desire to see her. He had been out hunting the past three days and had missed the comfort she provided. When he failed to spot her lovely coat, dread began to hang in his chest as worries of her fate started to ring in his head. Worries that would not rest until he learned of her fate...but, what has become of his kin? Are Runningheart, Webhaven, Darkripple, and Dovesong alright? He padded on, his face hiding his worry as he looked for any of his kin.

[Whiteleaf]

A gray tabby figure was peacefully sleeping in one of the corners of the warriors den, dreaming of the the thrill of a hunt. but before the dream could come to a satisfying end, Brookfall heard some of the other warriors start to stir. She opened her green eyes groggily, shivering slightly from the cold. She was so used to Cinderstone being close by, but for the past few days, her mate had been tirelessly out hunting for his clan.

After giving herself a quick grooming, she hopped out of her nice warm nest made of moss and down before scrambling for the entrance of the den, careful not to wake up the remaining cats. Brookfall quickly poked her head out of the warriors den before walking out into the clearing. She started to pad towards the fresh-kill pile, but before she reached it, a scent reached nose. The she-cat quickly scanned the clearing, letting out a purr when she spotted a familiar brown tabby pelt. "Cinderstone!" she called lightly to him, making a beeline for him. Brookfall flashed him a smile, despite him coming back empty-pawed.

The brown tabby tom's ears perked when he heard a familiar voice call his name lightly. Turning his large head, he locked golden eyes onto the grey she-cat's figure. "Brookfall!" His heart bounded again in his chest, this time due to his breath being taken by his love for this cat. Cinderstone padded forward, intent on meeting her halfway. He wove past a couple cats before pausing in front of her.

"Oh, how I've missed you!" He meowed, leaning in to nuzzle her shoulder. He stood still taken in her scent, farther calming his nerves. "How has it been in camp the last few days?" Cinderstone inquired as he stepped back to get a full look of Brookfall.
