A white and ginger figure was peacefully sleeping in one of the corners of the warriors den, dreaming of the the thrill of a hunt. but before the dream could come to a satisfying end, Whiteleaf heard some of the other warriors start to stir. She opened her dark green eyes groggily, but the drowsiness left the experienced warrior as soon as she realized that it was the first day of training for her new apprentice Ashpaw. He just happened to be her first apprentice, but she was excited and up for the challenge.

After giving herself a quick grooming, she hopped out of her nice warm nest made of moss and down before scrambling for the entrance of the den, careful not to wake up the remaining sleeping cats. Whiteleaf quickly poked her head out of the warriors den to see that it had snowed earlier during the night before racing out into Even though the she-cat sometimes enjoys the snow and its beauty, knew that this would make the training a bit trickier.

Trudging through the wet and cold snow in the clearing, Whiteleaf skidded to a halt outside of the apprentice den. Poking her head in, she peered through the gloom, trying to spot the gray coat that belonged to Ashpaw. Without any luck spotting him, she called out quietly, "Ashpaw, it's time to train!", before stepping out of the den, hoping that he had heard her. Waiting, she glanced up at the sky to see with dismay that some dark clouds were beginning to roll in.

The gray tom stirred but didn’t open his eyes. He was having a dream. He was back in the nursery with his brothers and his mother. He was playing a game...tag? No, hide and seek? What was it? In the confusion he heard his mother’s voice.

“Ashpaw, it’s time to train!” a voice called out quietly. Wait...train? Why would his mother make him train? He blinked open his eyes. That wasn’t his mother, that was Whiteleaf. The large gray tom scrambled to his feet and hurried out the den. His amber eyes held excitement as he faced his mentor.

“I’m ready! What are we doing today?” he asked, shivering when the cold finally hit him. He suppressed a nasty cough and it made his chest ache but he held it in. He knew he was sick but there was no way he was missing out on training. He was finally an apprentice!

Eventually hearing a cat stir from the apprentices' den, Whiteleaf turned her head to see the young gray apprentice finally come out. The she-cat quickly moved out of the way before Ashpaw could accidentally bump into her. "Great!" she mewed with a smile, amusement glittering in her bright green eyes when she saw his enthusiasm for training.

Just as the ginger and white warrior was opening her mouth to answer his question, a cough interrupted her. Glancing around to see where it had come from, she finally turned her concerned gaze on Ashpaw, beginning to feel a little bit of dread. "I was going to give you a tour of the territory first," Whiteleaf mewed, "but maybe you should go see the medicine cats to check out that cough before we do anything" The experienced warrior didn't want to take any chances, especially because he was her first apprentice.
