A Peaceful Night... (birthing thread)

Lightning yawned, feeling Yabo's warm pelt next to hers in the chill of the night. She wasn't sure what had awoken her. Maybe it was the cold. The gray sky in the distance showed that dawn would be here in the next hour or so. She decided she would go and hunt to surprise Yabo. As she stood up, she immediately fell back down because of a pain in her swollen belly. Must have been the rabbit last night. Rabbits always give me a stomachache. 

Lightning tried to stand up again and this time, she knew it wasn't a simple stomachache. It felt like she was being torn apart from the inside. Could it be? The kits! They're coming early! Lightning had met Yabo two moons ago and found out she was expecting her kits. They really weren't due for another half a moon. "Yabo!" she whispered, "I think the kits are coming early!" She let out a startled yowl as more pain made her double over and collapse in the moss. "Wake up Yabo!" she wailed.

OOC: Please try to make your applications soon! The sooner we get the kits accepted, the sooner we can start having some fun!

The large black and white tom was peacefully sleeping in the warm nest he shared with Lightening in their den, dreaming of the thrill of the hunt. but before the dream could come to a satisfying end, Yabo felt movement besides him. Wanting to get back to his dream, the rogue settled in deeper into the nest without opening his eyes. He had already begun to doze off again by the time he heard a faraway whisper. Then suddenly, a loud yowl pierced the still air in the den.

Instantly awake, Yabo scrambled to his large paws in a hurry, wondering what was going on. "What, what's wrong Lightening?" he asked, hoping there weren't any intruders she had detected. Spotting nothing, he then looked over at the panicked she-cat. His amber eyes widened with complete surprise when he saw her doubling-over on the floor of the den. Yabo quickly rushed over to her side, realizing that the kits must be coming, and early too! Trying to stay calm, the tom began to rhythmically lick the top of Lightening's head. "You and the kits are going to be fine, I know it!" he purred, trying not to let the sound of fear edge into his voice.

Lightning groaned on the ground of the den. This pain was much worse than when she had given birth to her first litter with Dusk. Something was going wrong and she knew it. "Yabo" she whispered, "Get... help... Go to Clans." She rolled over and groaned from the strength it took to utter those simple words. She then lied there, groaning as the pain shocked her body again. Something's wrong!

OOC: I thought it would be cool if we could get a Clan medicine cat to come and help them. We don't have to if you don't want to though. We can just say Lightning's overreacting.

The tom took a small step back when he heard a groan escape from the she-cat on the ground, hating to see her in pain. Yabo wasn't sure if he could make it all the way to the clans, but he did know what he could do. He raced out of the den, going to a small clump of trees. He searched for a sturdy branch, and finally finding one, brought it back to Lightening. Dropping it in front of his mate, he mewed, "You can bite on this." Yabo knew it wasn't much, but knew that it could slightly help her.

Lightning mewed her gratitude at Yabo and bit down on the stick and pain racked her body. She bit down as hard as she could and the first kit fell on the moss. "Oh..." she sighed. It was good that Yabo had gotten a sturdy branch. She picked up the tiny kit and started to lick it. "It's a male Yabo. It looks like you." It had black fur with three white paws, and splashes of black all over its body. She stretched her neck and lied the kit at Yabo's paws, only to groan again as the pain came back, temporarily forgotten from seeing her son.

OOC: Just so you know, that was Hoot.

Yabo smiled and licked her ear, glad that the branch was enough to help his hurting mate. but before he could say anything, a tiny kit entered the den. Their first kit, and he was sure a handsome tom! "He's beautiful," Yabo murmured with pride. He licked him a couple of times to get him drier, and then nudged him towards Lightning's belly. but after hearing Lightening groan, he gave his full attention to her.

Lightning felt another spasm go through her body. "Ahh!" she screamed. This was agonizing. She heard another kit fall onto the moss and her heart warmed with pride. Lightning licked the tiny kit's head, warming it up. "It's a female." She announced. Her pride was short lived, because soon, she was groaning again as another kit began to make it's way into the world. How many? My first litter was only two, but I'm about to give birth to a third!
