Shellfrost stretched her limbs, scratching her claws in satisfaction as a shiver passed through her spine. A wide yawn came upon her, stretch her muzzle into a silent yowl before closing back once more, her limbs brought back to herself as blue eyes scanned the camp. Newleaf had finally painted the territories with the vibrant colours of life, bringing the deathly grips of leaf-bare frost to a close. Prey was running around the meadows freely, and in populations that would satisfy the hungry bellies of newborn kits and sick Clanmates.

The white she-cat flicked her tail in slight irritation. Where is that furball? She padded over to the apprentices' den, lips slightly curled in a snarl as she pushed her head in. Right before the warming rays of the sun bathed WhisperClan with new life and hope for the future, she'd been assigned an apprentice who seemed to have gotten their name at the very last second, and out of all cats available, they picked one who was...prickly, so to speak. To make matters more aggravating, dawn had passed, and the sun was already midway through the skies - sunhigh wasn't too far off, which meant they were behind schedule.

Shellfrost glowered at a ginger pelt, hissing, "Flamepaw! Get off your nest and start moving before I drag you out by the ears!"

Flamepaw had been dreaming pleasantly before a loud yowl shook him awake.

"Flamepaw! Get off your nest and start moving before I drag you out by the ears!" hissed a familiar voice.

His eyes opened groggily, and flicked his ears in irritation. Who was this Flamepaw that was causing the cranky cat to yowl into his ears? Oh right, that's me! His mind raced to catch up, and he scrambled out of his nest, blinking the sleep out of his eyes and shaking it out of his pelt. "What's going on?" he asked his mentor Shellfrost, yawning and stretching leisurely. His tail curled and he flexed his claws. "Are we gonna take a tour of the territory first?" he muttered, head drooping from fatigue. He'd expected to wake up early, but not this early! "'Cause I need a few moments to wake up..."

Shellfrost kept her cold blue eyes on the ginger-pelted tom as he shambled out of the den after taking a luxurious stretch, head drooping from what could only be taken as sleepiness. Irritation pricked at the she-cat's pelt. What was he doing last night? Snorting, she padded towards the camp entrance, flicking her tail lightly at Flamepaw's nose to get him to follow. If this apprentice wanted a tour of the territory, then he would get one, but with a catch.

"In battle, that luxury is absent. Keep up with me!" the warrior called, dashing out the entrance with her hindpaws kicking up dirt. No apprentice of hers was going to complain about having not enough sleep, and if they did, they could make do without any form of morning meal. "You're not going to have any fresh-kill until we get back!"

"Wha...?" Flamepaw's head jerked up, fully awakened as Shellfrost took off, kicking grass into his face. "H-hey! Wait up!" he called frantically, plundering through the meadow in an attempt to catch up. However, when he ran out of the camp, he had discovered that he couldn't see his mentor anymore. "S-Shellfrost?" he stammered. "Shellfrost!" he called out, almost panicking. "SHELLFROST!" What do I do, what do I do? he asked himself frantically, his head whipping back and forth.

Then, it hit him, just as the wind blew by. "That's it!" he exclaimed out loud to no one. "I have a nose." Taking a huge whiff, he was relieved and excited to catch his mentor's scent. "She went that-a way," he said to himself, heading in the direction of Shellfrost. His paws carried him on, spurred on by new adrenaline and pride in finally solving a problem. Soon, he could see her. "FOUND YA!" he panted, skidding to a stop. "You disappeared for a moment, so I used my nose to find you! Are you proud?"

The white she-cat gave a snort of satisfaction when she heard the patter of Flamepaw's running steps, but was irked by the distance she put between herself and him before they began. It was bad enough that the ginger apprentice was seemingly tired and not had a good sleep, but to have a reaction as slow as an elder heavy on the catnip was only going to make things worse. Shellfrost made a mental note to have a word with Thrushstar regarding the matter whenever she got the chance.

Her blue eyes remained emotionless as the ginger tom skidded to her, enthusiastically describing his small achievement at locating his mentor not too long after disappearing from his view. You're expecting me to feel proud over that? Try harder. She snorted once more, turning away from Flamepaw with another flick of her tail tip. Wordlessly, she padded onto the path leading towards the fields, the want of bright open spaces to run in suddenly building up within her, giving her a slight anxiousness to get there even though she had as much as time as she wanted.

"So you can scent your target. That doesn't make enough of a difference," Shellfrost huffed, her pace quick through the grass. "What's next - you can use your eyes to see? Not enough either."

Aw, I was going to say that! he pouted, looking downcast. "Then what's 'enough?'" he asked tentatively, hi tail lashing as he struggled to sit still. "How do you know you're doing enough?" I can hear things with my ears! Oh wait, that's the same thing as smelling with my nose and seeing with my eyes. Ugh, this is so much to take in!
