Yo, I just joined last night but I've been poking around this forum for about two days deciding whether or not to join. Obviously I'm new around here but this isn't my first time roleplaying. It is, however, my first time in 8+ years.
A little bit about me: I go by Bird, as that was my old rp name, and am 21 years old and will be turning 22 in four months. My pronouns are she/her and they/them (I'm not picky about what you use). I was born and raised in the U.S. I'm in my fourth year of college and am majoring in graphic design.
My Tragic Backstory
I first started roleplaying warriors on a forum that's been long dead and is forever shut down in maintenance mode, Warriors Cats Claws Against Fur. I was about 12 or so when I joined and I loved that site. I become great friends with the Admin (who I've lost contact with) and even became Co-Admin and head designer of the site. Sadly, I stopped roleplaying about two years afterwards, shortly before the site died off. I had lost interest and felt that I was spending more time than was healthy on rp forums. Plus, I had just gotten into World of Warcraft and that consumed all of my attention (which I spent way more time playing than I ever did roleplaying warriors, so it really wasn't a healthier or cheaper change in the end). And that was the first and last time I role-played on a forum. I have played video games with role-play elements since but haven't done any roleplaying in the form of writing since my run with WCCAF.
My interest in warriors was very recently rekindled after coming across a post on tumblr and going through my old WCCAF characters (which I retrieved from the dead site about three years ago). It got me feeling those nostalgic feelings and sent me looking to see if there were still active warriors rp forums, which lead me here. I must say this place is pretty cool from what I've seen and seems to have a really good group of active members. So, here I am.
When I do start roleplaying it may take me awhile to develop a rhythm and/or style. Although I'm a significantly better writer now than I was at 13 (my old posts are so embarrassing I can't even read them w/o cringing) I have very little practice writing creatively. I'm honestly a much better artist than I am a writer.
Honestly, I just joined on a whim because nostalgia and a drive to expand my ability to create. As I mentioned, I'm more an artist than a writer, but part of character design is writing and being able to develop a character's personality. As fun as designing and coloring is it's kind of meaningless without the ability to develop traits and personality and motivations for a character, which is something I've always struggled with. I hope to better develop my skills in character design through roleplaying. Also, it gives me a reason to dust off my old characters, give them a fresh coat of paint, give them some better names and play around with them again.
I'm not making promises on staying longer than a month. I don't want to lead anyone on into thinking I'm for sure going to be here for months to come. It's just as likely that I'll leave after a week as it is that I'll stick around longer. but I'd like to give it an honest try, and if I'm still here in a month, then hey, this place is pretty awesome to keep my attention that long.
Too Long; Didn't Read
I role-played when I was 12, lost interest cause video games, and basically am coming back to it for nostalgia and something to do. May be a temporary obsession, may be in it for the long haul. Only time will tell.
(Oh my god this is 650+ words what the hell? You're all going to think I'm a narcissist or something... I'm normally much more casual than this I promise, I'm just kind of terrible about introductions. They're either too long or too short there is no in between.)
Also, while I'm thinking about it could anyone explain what a posting template is? I'm really curious.
