OOC: If you can't tell, the kit's my character, I just got WAAAY too into her mom and her backstory. Sorry about long post...
A light colored she-cat padded through Sunsetclan territory. The warm and wiggling bundle in her jaws seemed to slow her down a bit. The terrain was familiar to her, and yet new all at once, like a friend you have not seen in seasons. It had taken her over a moon to decide to come back, and even now she was not sure. For the tiniest moment, her paws hesitated in their march, as she thought back to her love in the woods. His eyes would widen in surprise when he saw her, and he would be smiling. He would welcome her back, and they would live together in happiness. but no...her daughter deserved more than the life of a rogue. It was that thought that drove her onward, more than the distant ache of homesickness that was all too easy to ignore.
She turned her thoughts to her former clanmates, to distract her from thoughts of him. Would they let her back in? Would they-could they-pretend nothing had happened? Settle back into the old routine like the daft old young thing hadn't run away with a rogue like the fool she had been. Of course it hadn't lasted, of course they'd fallen apart. Young love rarely lasted like it should. And that's how she'd found herself alone and lost in rogue territory, pregnant with the bundle in her jaws now, and too ashamed to crawl back to her old life. That's when she met him. He was kind, he'd helped her when she needed it most, and accepted her. So of course she'd stayed with him. What else could she do? Where else could she go? It didn't take long for her to fall. She breathed him in like air, and quickly became addicted.
"but that doesn't matter now.'' She hissed under her breath, through her mouthful of the most precious thing she'd ever hold. She looked up, only to see she'd made it to the suncavern. She smiled a bit, as fond memories of being an apprentice washed over her. How long had she spent here, dreaming of the day she'd grow up and fall in love?
It was only then that she began to have serious second thoughts. She had the opportunity of love in her paws, and was about to throw it to the wind like crow food. Yes, her daughter needed clan life to grow, deserved it even, but she herself needed the love of her mate-why deny the word-like she needed fresh kill. She could not deny her daughter the life she herself would never take back, and she couldn't deny her own heart what it longed for.~~~
That left only one option. She lifted her nose to the breeze, noticing the scent of another nearby. It was now or never. She set her precious bundle down, and licked her between the ears, mumbling sweet nothings like a tuneless lullaby. ''Take care dear Softkit.'' She whispered. ''And may Starclan light your path, even as I abandon theirs.''
It was hard leaving her daughter behind, to brave whatever she might face in her barely-begun life, but she managed it anyway, running and running until she could no longer hear the sounds of her cries. It was hard, but not impossible. She sent one last prayer to Starclan, asking that they not punish Softkit for her mother's sins, and that she may never know how betrayed she really was.
