Trying to Cheer You Up (Fox)

Cloudshadow paused by the warrior’s den and glanced around the clearing at all of the passing and gathering cats. His green eyes flashed as he searched among them for one in particular. He was waiting to see if he could find Blizzardnight, and wanted to ask her if she wanted to go for a walk through the territory with him. What if she says no though? I’m going to feel ridiculous and awful if I’m just making things worse… He sighed. The black and white tom had seen her around camp, and how distraught she had been ever since her mate had gone to Starclan. The death had upset the whole clan, but of course it would upset Blizzardnight more so than the rest. It made Cloudshadow feel awful and torn apart seeing how down she was now, and even more so when not many cats seemed to pay attention to it. Sunheart had been a great warrior, and clearly she had cared a lot for him as her mate. Had every cat forgotten that? Why didn’t they seem to notice, or was it just that he noticed it more than them? Many of the clan cats had moved on with their duties and got wrapped up in their own concerns, but Cloudshadow couldn’t help but feel worried for Blizzardnight, and he hoped she was doing all right. He didn’t think there was a lot he could do to help, but as a friend he wanted to try to cheer her up a little. At least being on a walk would be a change from the crowded clearing.

Blizzardnight laid in front of the fresh-kill pile, a nibbled on sparrow in between her paws. Her odd, black and green swirled eyes were full of worry, a stark contrast to their usual cheerful, optimistic shine. Before her mate died, before she even knew him actually, she had always had a smile on her face, a quick, kind word to anyone in need. Now it seemed like the whole world had thrown all it's troubles on her shoulders. She worried about her kits, Palepaw and Puddlepaw in particular, about her own disease, about everything. The world seemed full of troubles and unhappiness, and she found herself doing things more mechanically now. Hunt, patrol, sleep, eat, patrol, hunt, sleep. Sighing, the warrior glanced around before rising to her paws and starting towards the warrior's den, tail dragging in the dirt.

Cloudshadow’s ears pricked up when he finally spotted the she-cat moving towards the den from the fresh-kill pile. “Blizzardnight?” He meowed with a slight smile, slowly padding up to meet her, “Er- If you’re not busy, I was wondering if you would like to go for a walk with me around the territory?” He noted the way she carried herself with her tail dragging across the ground and felt another pang of concern, though he probably should have expected it. Seeing her like this just made him even more determined to try to help, and it reassured him that he was making the right choice to do so.

Blizzardnight stopped, features a mask of shock, one paw raised delicately in the air. She was reluctant, her heart squeezing slightly, but at the same time, she wanted to so very badly. She needed to get her mind off of everything, to move on, she knew that. And here was one of the few cats who actually seemed to notice her grief practically offering her an escape. "Sure..." she finally mewed softly, turning to pad back to him with an uncertain, but never the less present, smile on her face.

“Great!” Cloudshadow smiled a little, since he had feared she would say no. He padded toward the camp entrance and glanced back slightly to make sure he slowed his pace and didn’t move ahead of her. When he padded out of the exit and set paw on the leaf-strewn forest floor, it already began to feel less crowded to him than the busy clearing. The sun was shining up ahead and passing through the shifting leaves of the treetops, casting dappled shadows on the ground. “It’s a nice day out,” he commented with a twitch of his tail. On days like this he enjoyed getting out of the camp sometimes.

Blizzardnight quickly padded to him, oddly swirled black and white pelt brushing his ever so softly. She didn't really notice, for if she did, she would of more than likely leaped away. but there was something relaxing and comforting simply with the tom's presence, and she felt like just a tiny bit of her burden had been lifted. "It is rather beautiful..." she murmured, pausing and craning her neck so that the sun shimmered on her white and black dotted fur and made her green and black swirled eyes shimmer darkly.

Cloudshadow had glanced at her and nodded in agreement. He was glad to hear that she thought so too and his ears had pricked up hopefully before he turned his gaze ahead again to see where he was walking. “On sunny days like this when Rainstrike and I were kits, we used to try to catch the moving shadows of the leaves that were cast on the ground. We thought we were Leafclan warriors and that we were chasing away the evil shadow cats. I think every cat in the clan must have thought we were a bit mouse-brained.” The black and white tom purred light-heartedly.

Blizzardnight mreowed with laughter at the image, looking sufficiently cheered up. "Oh, I think we've all done mouse-brained things as kits. Shadowkit and I thought that if we made it to the Pond of Truce, we'd get to skip apprenticeship and get made warriors. I think some apprentice told it to us," she mewed, tail flicking slightly as she thought back.

Cloudshadow purred in amusement, knowing the idea. He and Rainstrike had tried to escape camp quite a few times as younger kits, usually because his brother had decided that he wanted to defend the borders by himself or something similarly mouse-brained. It was a wonder that they didn’t end up getting themselves into trouble or finding themselves stuck in the nursery all throughout their kithood.
“It’s amazing how simple and exciting everything seemed when we were kits. Even if we were stuck in camp, there was always some sort of adventure we would come up with,” He noted with a slight twitch of his whiskers. Everything definitely had seemed less complicated then, with little to worry about.
