It had been three moons since Sprinkles left her twoleg den. She had been staying in the forest surrounded by large trees. It was not at all like she had suspected and catching mice was a lot harder to do as well. Her coat was becoming less sleek and her collar she had once worn fell off and got lost somewhere in the cold white flakes on the ground. Sprinkles sat on her haunches, swiping a paw over her ears and bending to smooth down the fur on her back. The sun was just coming up but they did nothing to warm her paws, she was beginning to wish she had never left. No, there was a reason she left, they didn't want her anymore, and Samantha..., she didn't want to think about it. She was here to find the forest cats, and maybe just maybe she could stay with them. She had heard stories from the cats that lived in the den next to hers. She had heard that the cats lived together and that they were the biggest cats you would ever see.
So far the only cats she had seen were cats like herself that wandered around on their own. They were the meanest, stinkiest cats she had ever encountered. Just two sunrises ago she had finally got her first mouse she had seen in days. A sleek white and black spotted Tom had threatened to take it from her, and when she tried to warn him off he attacked. It was her first fight ever, fortunately she got out not too badly injured. but that was because she left the mouse behind and took off. She was not going to let her self get killed over a stupid mouse. Her side throbbed and her paw hurt, but the adrenaline running through her felt amazing. Her fur was beginning to lay flat again but her eyes shone with excitement.
Coming back out of her thoughts from the days past she noticed her fur was beginning to bristle just thinking about the fight. Jumping up she looked all around her, her tail becoming twice its size, she kneaded the ground making a dent in the snow. It was time for her to find the forest cats, it would be safer in numbers, she was sure of that. Hopefully they wouldn't mind her showing up on their den step.
Sprinkles walked until her paws ached but soon the trees were becoming more sparse and an overwhelming smell of cats took over her glands. She parted her mouth to take in all the scents, she never smelled so many cats before. Her pelt pickled as she began to wonder if she were doing the right thing. What if she got attacked again and it was by more then just one cat? For a moment she wanted to tuck tail and run, but she knew this is what Samantha would want for her, she had to at least try. The ground beneath her seemed to change, less snow lay in certain patches where the trees were standing to close together and little needles lay strewn all around. Every so often she would stop to scent if she were getting closer to the cats. Little did she know, she had just walked right into camp. Her heart beat fast as many eyes locked on to her, one cat in the distant yowled "Intruder!" Sprinkles fur fluffed, she had to do something, "I dont bring any harm, I want to be like you, please let me stay!" Her voice rang out and things went quite, the only thing she could hear was her heart beating in her ears and a single gulp.
