How could I forget his name?

Fawntail padded through the clearing. Suddenly, for some strange reason, she started thinking about her one and only battle. The one where she saved the apprentice. She saw him around camp every now and then, but she couldn't remember his name. She found herself remembering the strength in his pelt, his dazzling eyes, and the way he looked at her when she rescued him. She shook her head. It would never happen.

Falconfrost didn't take 'lazy days'. Playing with kits was good, hard, honorable work. However, in the recent game, he and StormClan had just been vanquished by LeafClan's leader. In other words, a kit had grabbed his tail. And he had been on the dawn patrol, so he'd done work. He was hungry. Grabbing a mouse, he spared a few seconds to look for his siblings. After a quick search that ended in failure, he looked for someone else to eat with, and, though he cursed himself, the first cat his eyes landed on was her. Immediately, he ducked his head. He always felt shameful around her because of how much he owed her. It made him feel the need to go out and do more work because he was doing the work for both of them because it was his fault he couldn't know. Or so it was in Falconfrost's eyes. but he couldn't just shuffle past her with his head down, and there weren't many other cats in camp he could be justified to share a meal with, all older warriors or younger apprentices. He toyed with the idea of eating alone, but, that would send the message that he didn't want to eat with her. And she might assume it was because she was not good enough to him, when really Falconfrost thought he wasn't good enough for her. So that left an option that he both eagerly wanted and wished he never got a chance to do. Padding up, he asked in a low, smooth voice, "Fawntail, would you like to eat with me?"

Fawntail started at his voice. "Oh, hello," she replyed. She tried desperately to keep the pur out of her voice. She was so embarrased by it. She so desperately wanted to be with him. She couldn't explain it. Again, his soft, dazzling eyes that decided for her. "Ok, sure," she told him.

[Splash]

Falconfrost tried his best to keep his heartbeat down, though it was rather hard not only because of the fear that he might offend this she-cat who had near-goddess status in his eyes, but also because of another emotion that he couldn't yet name. Giving a quick dip of the head, he set down the plump bit of prey, settling himself down and tucking his paws underneath him.

Fawntail lay down beside him. She tucked her paws underneath her and started to eat. She stopped for a moment and, without meaning to, started staring at the tom. He was so dazzling and he seemed so kind. What was his name? Fawntail tried to think. Falconfrost! Yes, that was it! Now that she remembered his name, she attempted to start a conversation. "Um, Falconfrost, she started rather awkwardly. She froze up. Fawntail couldn't speak! She finally found her voice. "Do you... um..." Fawntail didn't know what to say. She really had one question on her mind, but she couldn't ask it yet. Instead, she tried to say something... normal. "Falconfrost, have you gone hunting today?" Oh, why did she just ask that? Ok, she knew why. She hoped so much that he hadn't yet today so he might possibly ask her to hunt with him. but she knew that would never happen. She tried so hard to put that out of her mind, to banish it forever.

Falconfrost let her eat first, bending down to take a few clean bites when she stopped. 'Umm, Falconfrost,' His head turned up ward, eyes warm and friendly. He waited calmly, not upset at all by the silence, however awkward. When the question finally came, he smiled a bit, "Nope. I did go on the Dawn Patrol, though." He meowed. Really, there wasn't much better of a time for the question, and Falconfrost liked taking advantage of timing. "Would you like to go hunting with me?"

Fawntail had wanted him to say that, but she hadn't expected him to actually ask her! "Yes, yes, yes!" she told him quickly. Fawntail gasped and stepped back at the force of her reply. She didn't know why she had responded like that. All she knew was that she wanted to be with him.

Falconfrost chuckled a little, in a friendly, teasing way at her reaction, giving a warm smile. "Cool. Where should we go?" He asked, running through some worthwhile hunting places in his mind. He wasn't a great hunter, as he was partial to fighting, but, he knew that fights were rare and hunting was always needed so he practiced it often and always felt pride when he brought back a kill that would help feed the clan.

"Um, I don't know. I'm... injured. I don't really hunt," Fawntail said very embarrased. She lowered her head, trying not to let Falconfrost see it.

Falconfrost kept the guilt from his face, but it was there and a trained eye could pick it up. "C'mon. There's gotta be a way."

"I guess I could learn. maybe you could teach me," Fawntail replyed shyly. She looked straight at Falconfrost. She hoped that she could hunt. She wanted to learn- ok, she wanted to impress Falconfrost. She didn't know why, but she had feelings for him. "Ok, let's go," Fawntail said, padding toward the entrance.
